Irish trio find net on home soil

Roy Keane enjoyed a winning return to Cobh Ramblers as his Sunderland side won 4-0 in their third pre-season game of the summer. Keane, who started his career at Cobh, saw goals from Daryl Murphy, Anthony Stokes (2) and Roy O'Donovan give his troops a comfortable victory in his native Cork. Sunderland got off to a flying start with former Waterford striker Murphy firing them in front after just three minutes. The visitors doubled their lead on 52 minutes when Stokes found the net from an acute angle. Darren Ward saved a 66th-minute penalty from Max Cream, after the Sunderland goalkeeper had been adjudged to have brought down the Cobh man. Stokes grabbed his second of the night 12 minutes from time when he scrambled the ball home from close range. Former Cork striker O'Donovan completed the scoring a minute from time to round off a good evening's work for the Premier League side. New boys Teemu Tainio and David Meyler both made their debuts for Sunderland as they continued their preparations for the big kick-off next month.
