Midfielder happy to extend Wearside career
Sunderland veteran Dwight Yorke has ended doubts about his future by signing a new one-year contract.
Yorke had been considering his options and the former Sydney FC midfielder had been linked with a return to Australia.
However, the 36-year-old admits it was 'easy' to extend his association with the club after making 20 appearances in the Premier League last season.
"It has been a tremendous two years for me at Sunderland," Yorke told the club's
official website.
"I've got to know the players and the staff, and the fans have been great to me.
Great character
"In the end, it was a straightforward decision. I had one or two things to think about and I knew I needed to make a decision.
"Once the manager gave me the thumbs up, it was easy to sign."
Black Cats boss Roy Keane is confident his former Manchester United team-mate will be able to make an impact in the first team next season.
Keane said: "Yorkie's experience, on and off the pitch, has been invaluable to us.
"He's a great character to have in the dressing room and around the training ground, and he'll have a part to play for us next season."
