Roy Keane hopes the players he has sent out on loan return to Sunderland with a point to prove.

The Irishman is still assessing his Black Cats squad after almost two months in the job and has been active in the transfer market of late.

He has shipped out Clive Clarke to Coventry City, Jon Stead to Derby County and Andy Welsh to Leicester City.

Keane insists it does not mean the end for those players' Sunderland careers and is eager to see how they react to being loaned out.

"One or two have come in and one or two have gone out," Keane told Sky Sports News.

"That's the way clubs are run. Players come in and staff do as well to help us go forward. That's my job.

"I hope I have been fair to every player and staff member to prove themselves.

"Some players may have to go to other clubs to try and do that, whether it will just be on loan.

"If they go out and do well, the door will still be open at Sunderland."
