Stoke have pledged to stand by broken leg victim Rory Delap and wrap up a permanent switch for the Sunderland player.

Delap suffered a double break during Stoke's match with parent club Sunderland on Tuesday, and may not play again this season.

But that will not dissuade The Potters from honouring their agreement to sign the player on a permanent basis once the transfer window reopens in January.

"We signed Rory on loan with a clear intent and gentleman's agreement to make the deal permanent in January," confirmed City spokesman Tony Scholes.

"We owe it to Rory and his family to stand by him at a difficult time."
