Sunderland striker Chris Brown is aiming to join a Championship club on loan in the next fortnight.

Though the transfer window has closed, clubs in The Football League will be allowed to sign players on a temporary basis from next Thursday.

Brown is likely to be in demand, having already been the subject of some enquiries, while Barnsley's loan offer was knocked back.

The young forward has appeared just once this season, as a substitute at Liverpool, and he concedes he needs to be playing first team football.

Black Cats boss Mick McCarthy is unlikely to stand in Brown's way, with the 20-year-old waiting for a move to be finalised.

"I spoke to the gaffer and it suits me to go out on loan if it gives me a better chance of playing," Brown told the club's official website.

"I need to be playing competitive football if I'm going to keep improving.

"I gather some Championship clubs have made enquiries and it would be good to get a club at a good level like that for a month.

"It can't happen just yet because of rules on loans but hopefully it will get sorted out in the next couple of weeks."
