Bundesliga club Hannover have confirmed that they have offered USA international Clint Mathis a contract.

The former Metrostars striker has previously been on trial at Sunderland, but is now set to resume his career at the AWD Arena.

Mathis impressed whilst on trial during the club's winter training camp in Turkey.

Hannover president Martin Kind has confirmed that the offer was made on Monday and that he expects Mathis to commit his future to the club this week.

The Hannover chief also rejected claims that Czech international winger Jiri Stajner could be on his way out of the AWD Arena.

Stajner has been linked with a return to his homeland, with Sparta Prague the likeliest destination.

However, Kind was keen to reiterate that the club were not planning on trimming their squad.

''We are not interested in loaning him out to anyone,'' Kind confirmed.
