Robbie Blake is the latest reported target for Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy.

The Black Cats manager is known to be seeking a new striker to pep up his attack after failing with a bid for Huddersfield Town's Jonathan Stead.

Although Swindon Town's Sam Parkin has also been mentioned in the gossip columns as another potential recruit, the former Chelsea forward only recently penned a new deal at The County Ground.

Blake has the pedigree and flair to make an impact on Wearside, but it has been claimed that Burnley have rejected a £600,000 approach from Sunderland for his services.

Meanwhile, Stan Ternent has confirmed that Jesper Christiansen is to get the chance to earn a move to Turf Moor in a hastily-arranged practice match with Manchester United on Christmas Eve.

United agreed to the game, possibly to hand another run-out to defender Wes Brown, and Rangers' reserve keeper is set to figure.

"We will say more about it once we have decided," Ternent told The Independent.

"I don't like talking about these things in case it goes wrong and the lad has 'Burnley didn't want to sign him' against his name."
