FORMER Sunderland defender Iain Davidson has signed for ambitious Scottish outfit Brechin City.

The First Division side have lured Davidson back north of the border after his spell on Wearside.

Brechin have secured back-to-back promotions in the past two seasons and will hope Davidson can assist their ambitions of making an impact in Division One.

Davidson was released by The Black Cats at the end of the last campaign and pitched up at Glebe Park on the recommendation of Sunderland coach Jocky Scott.

The 19-year-old has already figured for Brechin and shone in Monday night's victory over SPL side Aberdeen.

He also featured against Peterhead at the weekend and Brechin boss Dick Campbell has tipped the defender for a bright future.

Campbell said: "He played well on Saturday and I am optimistic about him."
