SUNDERLAND are the latest club to show an interest in Albion Rovers' highly-rated keeper Scott Shearer after handing the youngster a trial.

Hot on the heels of Manchester United, who have sent scouts to Scotland to run the rule over the star, Shearer will now travel down to spend a few days training with The Black Cats this week.

The 21-year-old is one of the hottest properties North of the Border, and is highly likely to secure a move away from Cliftonhill Stadium when the transfer window reopens in January.

Sunderland already have a plethora of keepers at the club, in the shape of in-form shot-stopper Jurgen Macho and Thomas Sorenson, however manager Howard Wilkinson (pictured) is keen to run the rule over the youngster.

Rovers' manager Peter Hetherston has already stated his admiration for the custodian, claiming the shot-stopper has all the attributes to make it at the highest level.
