Black Cats plan talks

SUNDERLAND are planning talks with  young striker David Bellion and keeper Jurgen Macho, while Wolves are believed to have failed with a loan move for Marcus Stewart.

The situation on Wearside has changed since Howard Wilkinson's arrival as manager, with Bernt Haas, currently out on loan to Basel, admitting he is keen to return to see out the last year of his contract.

Another on the transfer list, Macho, has seen his fortunes transformed under Wilkinson as the Austrian keeper performed magnificently in the dogged goalless draw with Liverpool recently.

Although the loan capture of Mart Poom, with a view to a permanent move, places a question mark over Macho's future, Wilkinson wants the player to come off the list.

"I am in the process of addressing Jurgen Macho's situation," he stated.

"I am talking to his advisers, and will take it from there."

As for strikers, Stewart has attracted attention from Wolves boss Dave Jones, who is desperate to bring in a new face up front.

After Tottenham blocked a move for Les Ferdinand, former Ipswich ace Stewart was targeted, but it is understood that Sunderland were unwilling to allow a temporary deal to go through.

Ipswich themselves have also dropped out of the chase for the talented hit-man, who feels he has yet to be given a proper chance to establish himself at Stadium of Light.

Meanwhile, French flyer Bellion was linked with a host of clubs, including Manchester United, in one of the Sunday tabloid newspapers.

The former Cannes forward is in the last year of his contract, but Wilkinson has assured the club's supporters that a new deal will be on the table.

"We are aware David is in the last year of his contract and we plan talks about a new deal," affirmed the Black Cats manager.
