SUNDERLAND manager Peter Reid is again out of the country as he looks to bring in fresh blood at the Stadium of Light this summer.

Reid has been linked with a number of players during the close season, including Bart Goor, Vidar Riseth and Radek Bejbl, although his Euro 2000 scouting trip is yet to produce any succesful transfer deals.

The latest player to come under the scrutiny of the former Everton midfielder is Romanian international Christian Chivu, who scored the opening goal in his country's Group A match against England on Tuesday.

"I liked what I saw even before he scored that goal," said Reid. "He looks a very good all-round player."

The 19-year-old has been one of the notable talents of the tournament so far, and he is sure to have attracted the attention of a number of top clubs throughout Europe.

Reid will now be hoping to see his latest transfer target in action in the quarter final match against Holland on Sunday, before he makes any final decision on whether or not to make a firm offer for the promising Ajax youngster.
