TONY HALE has quit as Chairman of West Bromwich Albion following claims of broken financial promises.
The Hawthorns` supremo since 1994, Hale survived a bid to oust him in the summer, but could not beat off the furore surrounding the £2.5million sale of Kevin Kilbane to Sunderland.
He claimed that deal was forced on the club because financial backing promised in the summer failed to materialise and the Baggies were continuing to lose money.
In a statement announcing his decision, he added: "This is a sad day for me. I believe I have been let down by persons who had made financial pledges.
"My position has become untenable and I am now going away to consider my continuing position as a board member.
"I now wish to put the stress of the past nine months behind me and take an immediate rest."
