Sky Bet Championship: Birmingham dismiss claims of transfer embargo

Birmingham have dismissed claims they could be hit with a transfer embargo next month.

Reports over the weekend suggested the Sky Bet Championship club would breach financial fair play rules because of anticipated losses.

Under current regulations clubs must lose no more than between £5m-£8million in a single tax year.

But Blues have rejected any speculation they will be slapped with any sanctions next month.

"Birmingham City is not currently facing any transfer ban or other sanction," a spokesman said.

"The financial fair play result, as submitted to the Football League, shows that the club complies with the regulations.

"To suggest anything to the contrary is just pure guesswork."

It comes after last week's online posts claiming to be from former acting chairman Peter Pannu saying the club would run out of money early next year.

Those claims were also rejected by Birmingham and the Football League are satisfied with the club's situation.
