Birmingham have made a triple signing from Manchester United, taking striker Federico Macheda and defenders Tom Thorpe and Tyler Blackett on loan deals until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old Macheda has struggled at Old Trafford since scoring in his first two appearances for Manchester United in April 2009.
The burly Rome-born player has played for a host of clubs on loan, most recently for Doncaster on New Year's Day.
He last played for United in December 2012 who he had joined from Lazio five and a half years earlier.
Thorpe, on whom United retain the option to recall after 28 days, skippered the club to FA Youth Cup success in 2011 and also the Under-21 Premier League title.
The Manchester-born centre-back is yet to play a first team match for the Red Devils but, the Birmingham club website reported, he is "accomplished on the ground and excellent in the air.
"Thorpe was formerly captain of the England U19s side and subsequently moved up to represent the Three Lions at U20s level."
He will wear the No 5 shirt and has been added to the squad for Saturday's game against Derby County.
Highly-rated England youth international Blackett has also moved on loan until the end of the season, with Utd having a 28-day recall option on the 19-year-old, who can play at left-back, centre-back or left-wing.
