Lovenkrands looking elsewhere

Magpies forward planning to leave St James' Park

A lack of opportunities at Newcastle has led Peter Lovenkrands to start planning for life away from St James' Park. The Danish forward has been awarded just one Premier League start this season, and that came back in August against Fulham. Newcastle's unbeaten opening to the campaign has worked against him, with Alan Pardew reluctant to tinker too much with a winning formula. As a result, Lovenkrands finds himself out of favour and has been completely overlooked for the club's last two fixtures. Even an injury to Shola Ameobi has failed to see him earn a recall, with Ameobi's younger brother Sammy and Hatem Ben Arfa preferred as attacking cover for Monday's 3-1 victory over Stoke. Newcastle are keen to keep Lovenkrands on board, with fresh terms set to be tabled, but the 31-year-old believes the time has to come to move on.

Talks

He told TV2.dk: "I've talked to the coach and he would like to extend my contract, but I cannot wait for that. "In January, I can talk to whoever I want, so my agent is working to find me another club." Lovenkrands knows from past experience that life as a free agent can be tricky, so he has refused to rule out the possibility of securing a switch away from Newcastle during the January transfer window. "There are lots of things I'd like, but I'm keeping my cards close to my chest," he added. "There have been talks with the club about an extension, but it's not something that happens before January or next summer, so right now we're looking for other options."
