Portsmouth boss wants to retain loan star

Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill has confirmed the club are keen to retain the services of on-loan David Cotterill. The winger has made seven appearances for Pompey, but is due to return to Swansea following this weekend's trip to Leicester. Pompey boss Cotterill has been pleased with the Wales international and wants to extend his Fratton Park stay. Cotterill believes that Swansea could benefit from allowing the winger to remain at Portsmouth, although he is yet to speak with counterpart Brendan Rodgers.

Benefit

"David has got another game with us before he goes back," he told The News. "I will have a word with Brendan this week to see where we are. Swansea may look at our fixtures and think 'we might let him stay there for another month'. "We've got some good games coming up at home so they may think it may benefit them by letting him stay with Portsmouth. "I haven't spoken to Brendan since we took David. We've had that many games so there is no point me ringing him every five minutes. But I will give him a call this week."
