Birmingham have suffered a blow with the news that midfielder Lee Carsley is out for another six weeks.

Veteran out for another six weeks with ankle injury

Birmingham have suffered a blow with the news that midfielder Lee Carsley is out for another six weeks. The veteran is currently on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in the FA Cup third round draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on 2nd January. While Birmingham boss Alex McLeish initially declined to put a time limit on how long the 34-year-old would be out for, the former Scotland boss now believes Carsley will be missing for a further six weeks. It is a blow for the in-form Blues as Carsley has provided experienced back-up for the first-choice partnership of Lee Bowyer and Barry Ferguson in midfield.

Daily treatment

But at least McLeish can console himself with the news that the midfielder does not need surgery. The Birmingham boss said: "You are probably looking at Lee being out for six weeks. "He has not had an operation, he is just getting daily treatment. His ankle is in a boot, is stabilised and that is going to help him more. "But he doesn't need any surgery."
