Sky Sports News understands Rangers striker Kris Boyd will undergo a medical at Birmingham City on Thursday.
A fee has been agreed for the freescoring front man but as yet the two parties are still some way apart with regards personal terms.
Boyd will travel to the Midlands on Thursday to take his medical and attempt to thrash out an agreement with the Championship club.
Blues boss Alex McLeish is a known admirer of Boyd having worked with him both at Ibrox and with the Scotland national side.
Boyd currently tops Rangers' goalscoring chart with 18 to date, while his career record at Ibrox reads 69 goals in 96 appearances.
McLeish is eager to add a proven goalscorer to his ranks ahead of a concerted push for promotion in the second half of the campaign and an overall record of 133 goals in 181 starts should whet the appetite of the St Andrews faithful.
