Birmingham boss Alex McLeish admits he would not be surprised if other clubs were targeting loan star Mauro Zarate.
Zarate, who is on loan at St Andrews until the end of the season from Al-Sadd, has caught the eye in recent weeks with a number of impressive performances.
The diminutive forward has scored three goals in his last two games, bringing him to the attention of some of the Premier League's big guns.
McLeish is a big fan of Zarate and he is not worried that other sides might be looking at the Argentine.
"He is 21 and his introduction into the Premier League has been a baptism of fire," McLeish told Sky Sports News.
"He knows what we want from him we don't have to tell him what to do when he has got the ball at his feet in terms of how to beat a man, but what we will try to impress upon him is looking for other people because when you got the ability to beat a man it opens space for others.
"If we can put everything together he is going to be some player."
When asked if he thought Zarate would be attracting interest from other clubs, McLeish said "I would have thought so. When he came here on loan a few of the big guns were disappointed we nipped in before them because he was definitely on the radar.
"If some of our boys are being targeted by big clubs - that's great that means we are playing well and means individuals are playing well."
Despite Zarate's fine form McLeish says he is no rush to try and sort out a permanent deal for the player, saying he will wait until the end of the season before working on that.
"I don't think we should be looking any further until the end of the season just now," noted McLeish.
"We have targeted some players and do have to sow the seeds in some situations, but we need to concentrate on what is ahead of us and the short-term aim is to get some points at Wigan."
