Skysports.com understand that Birmingham are tracking Czech defender Michal Kadlec.

The Sparta Prague starlet was a target for Celtic in the summer, but the Scottish champions failed to seal a deal for the 23-year-old.

Now Alex McLeish has been alerted to Kadlec - who is a left sided defender and can either play full-back or in the middle.

McLeish is understood to have travelled to Prague on Monday to make a personal check on Kadlec.

And the former Scottish chief could very well have left impressed from Sparta's 3-1 win over Viktoria Plzen - which saw Kadlec play the full 90 minutes and also score the third goal.

Kadlec, the son of Czech footballing legend Miroslav, already has two full caps to his name and is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in his country.

McLeish is seeking to add to his squad in January and he is now thought to have made tentative moves to try and land Kadlec when the transfer window re-opens.
