Steve Bruce fears Birmingham City midfielder Borja Oubina faces a long spell on the sidelines.
Oubina, who is on a season-long loan from Celta Vigo, suffered a knee injury in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Liverpool.
He was making his first start for Birmingham, but lasted just 13 minutes before being replaced by Gary McSheffrey.
Blues boss Bruce admits it is a bleak outlook for Oubina, who is likely to be out for several months.
"It's tragic news for Oubina because it looks like he's ruptured his cruciate ligament which will keep him out for the rest of the year," Bruce told the club's official website.
Oubina had made his debut for Birmingham in the club's previous game as a late substitute in the 1-0 home win over Bolton Wanderers.
