Birmingham duo Damien Johnson and Rafael Schmitz are set to return to training this week.
The pair have both been missing for Birmingham's opening four games of the season because of injury.
Blues captain Johnson has been struggling with a hamstring problem, while loan signing Schmitz has been hampered by an Achilles injury.
The duo could be in contention for next weekend's game with Middlesbrough if they come through training without any problems.
Blues boss Steve Bruce welcomed the return to fitness of both players.
"It has been frustrating for Jonty, especially after he missed quite a chunk of last season with his fractured jaw," said Bruce.
"But we expect him to step up his rehab and start training again this week.
"It will be good to have him back in contention and we were certainly short in numbers in the midfield area during the early part of the season.
"Fabrice Muamba and Mehdi Nafti ran themselves into the ground for the opening two games against Chelsea and Sunderland but, because Jonty and Johan Djourou were injured, I couldn't really change it against West Ham and it told on us.
"We expect Rafael to be training this week as well."
Meanwhile, defender Martin Taylor has undergone a hernia operation and will be out of action for another three weeks.
