Steve Bruce says he will not be meeting Sheffield Wednesday's £3million valuation of Madjid Bougherra.

Birmingham City are the latest club to express an interest in the defender, who was the subject of a failed £1.3million bid from Charlton Athletic earlier this month.

Everton have also been linked with the Algerian, while Owls chairman Dave Allen confirmed on Monday that Birmingham had made an enquiry.

Blues boss Bruce has acknowledged his interest in Bougherra, who has made a positive impression during his first season at Hillsborough.

But after a conversation with Owls counterpart Brian Laws, Bruce admitted he has no intention of making a £3million bid.

"We have made an enquiry, but I can categorically deny that we will ever pay £3m for the player," Bruce told the Yorkshire Post.

"I phoned Brian and we had a conversation about a number of players. It was about 10 days ago.

"What we talked about will remain confidential, but I have expressed an interest in Madjid Bougherra and I have asked to be kept up to date on the situation."
