Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce has told midfielder Neil Danns to forget the fancy stuff and return to his old ways.
Danns battled his way to 17 goals for Colchester last season but has so far only netted once in The Championship.
Bruce believes the 23-year-old has been trying to play too much for Birmingham and has urged him to get back to the warrior he was.
"Neil's strength is getting up and down the pitch and scoring the odd goal," Bruce told the Daily Star.
"Last year he got 17 for Colchester, yet all of a sudden he comes here and thinks he's expected to be a footballer.
"He's not. He's one of those dogs of war and he's changed his game. In the last two matches he's looked twice the player he was."
Danns accepts Bruce's comments and is ready to fight as Blues push for an instant return to The Premiership.
The former Colchester ace said: "We have to do the ugly stuff. Perhaps a few of us didn't realise what a dogfight this is."
