Neil Danns brings you his first skysports.com column!

Hi and firstly can I just say how pleased I am to be joining skysports.com for the coming season.

I have enjoyed a really good start to my Birmingham career since my summer move from Colchester.

It was typical that we would get them in the first game, and that made for a nervous time on Saturday - particularly for me, making my debut in front of the home fans and also against my former club.

It was important for us to make a good start, many people see us as one of the favourites for promotion and probably rightly so given some of the quality within our squad.

But Saturday was one of those games where we were stuck between a rock and a hard place - if we won people would not be bothered as they think we should and if we did not then we would receive loads of stick.

The most important thing was the win and that is what we got, although it was far from easy. I was pleased with the way it went for me throughout the game and I really enjoyed it.

Also the reaction I received from the fans, including the Colchester public who gave me a tremendous reception - which was pleasing as sometimes you are not always sure how former fans will react.

We are already looking towards our next match with Sunderland and the coming weeks, we know how hard this division is going to be - and nobody at this club is taking things for granted.

The gaffer tells us we do have to take it one match at a time, it is an old cliché, but it is true - you can never look beyond the next encounter, but we are intent on getting into an early winning mentality.

I hope you all enjoy my contributions throughout the season!

Thanks Neil
