Bundesliga side Hamburg have denied press speculation that Birmingham striker Mikael Forssell is close to a move to the AOL Arena.
Hamburg coach Thomas Doll has been given é¼12 million to spend on new arrivals in order to prepare his side for a spell in next season's UEFA Champions League.
A striker is Doll's top priority in the summer transfer window and German press were quick to link the Bundesliga outfit with the Finnish international.
The injury-prone striker is held in high regard in Germany following an impressive spell at Borussia Monchengladbach, but Dietmar Beiersdorfer, Hamburg's director of sport, played down speculation that the transfer was imminent.
"It's certainly not hot news at the moment," declared Beiersdorfer, who nevertheless did not rule out interest in the 25-year-old.
Top of Hamburg's shopping list is Werder Bremen's Croatian international Ivan Klasnic, while they are also believed to be keen on PSV Eindhoven's gifted winger Jefferson Farfan.
