David Dunn is convinced Birmingham's players have the right mentality to survive a relegation battle.

Blues are stuck in the drop zone, having started the season in disappointing fashion, but they fired a warning to the teams around them when thumping Portsmouth 5-0 on Saturday.

Dunn, who is back in fine form having finally shrugged off his hamstring complaint, has no intention of tasting relegation again, having gone down with Blackburn in 1999.

The midfield dynamo feels he is in a good position to aid Blues and is happy with the players around him in the trenches.

"I was only a young lad when Blackburn went down, but it made me stronger," said Dunn.

"I learned a lot about some of the players around me. It is a lot better here, you sense even when we have been beaten that nobody is doubting we can get out of this."

Dunn is aware of the importance of Saturday's win over fellow strugglers Portsmouth.

"This was a huge win for us, not only because it was Portsmouth but because the goals will do us good.

"You could see the confidence flowing through the team at the end.

"It could be a turning point, but we have said that a few times this season then not followed it up."
