The defender moved to Prenton Park at the start of the current campaign and was expected to remain with Brian Little's outfit until the end of January.
Bruce, son of Birmingham manager Steve, made 12 appearances for League One Tranmere but was not included in the squad for recent fixtures against Colchester and Lincoln.
Both parties, and the 21-year-old himself, agreed to end his spell with Rovers and Premiership outfit Birmingham received special dispensation to welcome him back to St Andrews.
After previous loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Oldham last season, the young defender will now be back under the wing of his father with the struggling Blues.
