Birmingham's Nicky Butt has received an additional one-game ban for using abusive and/or insulting language toward a match official and will now miss Blues' derby with Aston Villa on October 16.

The midfielder has already served a three-match ban for his sending off after kicking out at Portsmouth's Dario Silva and, despite requesting a personal FA hearing, the loan signing from Newcastle has also been handed a £8,500 fine.

Meanwhile, young Birmingham striker James McPike has signed professional terms with the Premiership club after agreeing a three-year contract.

McPike, who turned 17 on the day of his contract signing, only joined the full-time Academy ranks over the summer after Steve Bruce beat off competition from Villa for the prospect.

The Birmingham-born player scored four goals in nine Under-18 appearances last season and has scored once in six games this season.

It has been a productive couple of days for the Blues Academy with striker Sone Aluko being named amongst the substitutes for the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday.
