Birmingham boss Steve Bruce insists that David Dunn will not be rushed back.Birmingham boss Steve Bruce insists that David Dunn will not be rushed back from his latest injury.
Dunn is back in training following back surgery in February, but Bruce wants to make sure the England international is at full strength before he plays again.
The 25-year-old made just 12 appearances last term and has been limited to less than 30 starts since his £5.5 million move from Blackburn in 2003 - due to a string of problems.
However, Bruce is now hoping to ease him back into his plans.
"One thing not going to be done, even though we might love to, is to shove him right back in the team and wave a magic wand and say 'He's back, he's been given the go-ahead and this is David Dunn again'," Bruce told Sky Sports News.
"It is not going to happen quite like that, everyone who has been associated with the game knows if you have a long-term injury, broken leg, ligament or whatever, however long you're out - it takes you time to get back.
"So we have got to be patient. That's why Forssell, Izzet and Lazaridis are three months into rehabilitation, will become better and certainly that's the case with David Dunn."
