Steve Bruce is looking for David Dunn to be given the all clear in order to spark Birmingham's season into life.

Blues have made a stuttering start to the season and Bruce claims the return of the midfielder will hand everyone at St Andrews a boost.

Dunn saw his season wrecked by a back injury, with the player forced to go under the knife in February in a bid to revive his career.

Bruce feels the England international is well on the road to recovery and is hopeful a meeting with a specialist next week will hand the midfielder the boost he is craving.

"Dunny sees a specialist shortly and we hope he gets the go-ahead," said Bruce. "He is already doing all the pre-season work now.

"If he gets the go-ahead then he can start playing straight away because he has done all the hard work on the fitness side.

"In the first six months Dunny was here we were in the top six for the most part - and that was no coincidence.

"He is a special sort of player and we are a better team with him in it."
