Birmingham boss Steve Bruce concedes that he still has major doubts over the long-term fitness of David Dunn.

The creative midfielder has a long history of having problems with his hamstrings and despite having eased his way back from the sidelines in the past month, both Bruce and Dunn admit they remain cautious.

Birmingham's recent derby successes over Aston Villa and West Brom were primarily down to the form of the midfield schemer, with Bruce conceding his presence is always a bonus.

''It has been a bad one for Dunn,'' said Bruce.

''It's not like a broken leg where you are out of the game, the break heals, and then you are okay again.

''This is an ongoing thing and we hope we've got to the bottom of it.

''Let's hope he stays injury-free and we are able to see just what a good player he is.''

With so many setbacks in the past, Dunn is keen to take his rehabilitation slowly and not get carried away with his current good form.

''I have given myself 10 games to see how it goes,'' said Dunn. ''I don't want to say anything or tempt fate until then.

''At the moment I'm feeling good and playing well.''
