Steve Bruce has moved swiftly to dismiss suggestions that David Dunn's injuries are career threatening.

The £5.5 million signing is expected to feature at the weekend against former club Blackburn, but rumours have persisted about the midfielder's troublesome hamstrings.

Dunn has missed much of the season so far with recurring problems, but Bruce has blasted suggestions that his charge's career is in jeopardy.

"Dunny has had his problems with his hamstrings, but to make out he's finished is rubbish."

Dunn, criticised whilst at Rovers by then-boss Graeme Souness for his playboy lifestyle, is expected to undergo surgery on his back in a bid to cure the problem - but should wait until the summer for the procedure.
