Birmingham City have confirmed that Clinton Morrison needs surgery on his injured knee.

The Republic of Ireland international was injured during his country's 0-0 draw with France on Saturday.

Scans have now confirmed that Morrison has damaged cartilage and will be sidelined for at least a month.

The news of the injury to Morrison is a bitter blow to Blues boss Steve Bruce who is already without Mikael Forssell due to a lengthy knee problem.

There was better news for Bruce on Emile Heskey after he returned to training following a back problem.

However, the injury to Morrison does mean that Bruce is down to just Dwight Yorke and Heskey in the striking department, having sold Stern John to Coventry earlier this season.
