The Birmingham City striker limped out of Republic of Ireland's 0-0 draw against France at the end of the first half with a knee complaint.
Morrison believes that he has knee ligament damage which could rule him out for some time - just as he was establishing himself in international football.
"I was just standing there and all of a sudden I could hear a pop and a click in my knee and I just went down," said Morrison.
"I tried to get up and carry on but the pain was relentless and I had to come off. I will have a scan, see how it is and go from there, but it is the medial ligaments in my left knee.
"It was so disappointing to come off because all my friends and family were over, but I will keep on going."
Morrison was playing well in Stade de France until his injury, which should rule him out of Wednesday's home clash with Faroe Islands.
The former Crystal Palace marksman says that he will still be at the game to cheer on his team-mates, but he is still worrying about the extent of the problem.
"I felt it was one of the best games I've played for Ireland in a long, long time.
"I felt on top of my game and from the first minute I could see the defender was not happy, so I thought I was going to get the better of him.
"That's how it goes, but it was still a fantastic result.
"I'd like to be fit for Wednesday, so fingers crossed and we will see how it goes, but if not then I'm going to try and stay here until Wednesday.
"I don't want to go back to Birmingham. What for? To be depressed? I want to cheer the boys on."
