The 18-year-old Sadler will join The Cobblers on a month's loan and is expected to make his debut for the club in Saturday's game, away at Bury.
For such a young player, Sadler already has a wealth of experience under his belt, having made four first team appearances for Birmingham, including games against Bolton Wanderers and Manchester United last season.
Following the influx of players to Blues in the January transfer window this year however, Sadler was forced to return to reserve team and academy football.
A serious ankle injury at the end of last season put paid to Sadler's hopes of returning to the Birmingham first team for the start of this season.
The player recently made a return to competitive action and has been impressing regularly in the reserves.
It is hoped that Sadler will provide extra strength at the back for Northampton who currently lie 16th in Division Three having suffered a poor start to the season.
Without a defeat in over a month now though, the team finally seem to have settled, and Sadler is expected to help them continue their fight up the table and out of danger.
