However, both Baggies chairman Paul Thompson and Hughes` agent, Dale Wright, have claimed there is little substance to the reports.
"I think somebody is flying a kite," Thompson told West Brom`s official website. "I think Lee will always be mentioned, because I think every club in the country would like him.
"Every time somebody`s looking for a striker, good strikers, like Lee, will be mentioned in that context." Thompson added that the club hopes to pair Hughes with fans` idol Bob Taylor in attack next season.
Wright, the player`s agent added on the official website: "As far as we`re concerned, Lee is a West Bromwich Albion player. Unless we hear anything to the contrary from the club themselves, he will remain so. Lee`s priority is to get fully fit for the first game of the season."
