Ben Alnwick - Barnsley

The summer arrival from Tottenham hasn't endeared himself at Oakwell after getting sent off for a headbutt in the Capital One Cup against Rochdale last month. But the 25-year-old's stock will have risen after a clean sheet against Bristol City at the weekend. The Tykes were reduced to 10 men and had to withstand some pressure late on but Alnwick stood up to the test.

Paul Caddis - Birmingham

The 24-year-old full-back produced a wholehearted display on debut for Birmingham and made a neat contribution to the club's first league win under Lee Clark. It completes a dramatic turnaround in fortunes for the former Swindon captain after he found himself frozen out by Paolo Di Canio at the club he helped to the League Two title in May. Caddis told the Birmingham Mail: "I had a disagreement with the manager, that was it - the manager made it quite clear he didn't want me at the club anymore. Then this opportunity came up and now I'm up in the skies."

Richard Keogh - Derby

There was some disquiet at Pride Park when Jason Shackell was sold to Burnley and Nigel Clough replaced the popular centre-back with a player who had been relegated with Coventry. Keogh was promptly installed as Rams captain and will have gone some way to winning over the home support with a goalscoring performance in the 5-1 win over Watford at the weekend. Derby first-team coach Andy Garner told the Derby Evening Telegraph: "I thought Richard Keogh was outstanding. He has a great attitude. He defends properly and keeps going right to the end. He will be gutted, absolutely devastated that we conceded a goal even at 5-0 and he typifies what we want at the moment."

Wes Morgan - Leicester

Morgan crossed the divide from Nottingham Forest to Leicester and has become a key figure at the heart of the Foxes defence. While it hasn't been the best of starts for Nigel Pearson's side, Morgan was a defensive rock on Saturday evening as Leicester kept a clean sheet against a Blackpool side that had scored 10 goals in their previous three games.

Martin Cranie - Barnsley

The versatile defender joined Barnsley from relegated Coventry in the summer and has made an encouraging start to his Tykes career. The 25-year-old played his part in a backs-to-the-wall clean sheet against Bristol City at the weekend after Barnsley had been reduced to 10 men following the sending off of Bobby Hassell.

Craig Bryson - Derby

The influential midfielder came up with a man-of-the-match display as Derby thumped Watford 5-1 at Pride Park. Although the 25-year-old Scotland international was not among the five Rams goalscorers he caught the eye as he covered so much ground in his accustomed box-to-box role. A yellow card was the only thing to mar the former Kilmarnock man's day.

Liam Trotter - Millwall

Trotter was the star of the show as the Lions roared to a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough at the Den. After scoring the opening goal of the game with a thumping 20-yard volley, the 24-year-old then hit the post for Andy Keogh to turn home the rebound.

Peter Whittingham - Cardiff

Whittingham has long been a deadball specialist and he showcased his talents with a marvellous hat-trick at Cardiff City Stadium against Wolves on Sunday afternoon. The former Aston Villa opened his account with a clever penalty before firing home from the edge of the area to give the Bluebirds the lead just minutes later. A tremendous second-half free-kick curled past Carl Ikeme to give the 27-year-old the second hat-trick of his career.

Craig Mackail Smith - Brighton

The Brighton forward came up with a stunning brace to help the Seagulls see off Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor on Saturday. His first effort was an impressive one as he fizzed home a 20-yard effort past Lee Grant but the Scotland international then topped that strike with a brilliant overhead kick to restore Brighton's lead with a quarter of an hour remaining.

Andy Keogh - Millwall

The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international had a career goalscoring record of little better than one in six from over 250 appearances prior to his arrival at the Den in January. Since then the transformation has been remarkable with Keogh netting 12 goals in 22 Championship games for the club. He added two more goals in the win over Middlesbrough on Saturday - both poacher's efforts from close range to sink Tony Mowbray's side.

Glenn Murray - Crystal Palace

Palace went into Saturday's home game against Sheffield Wednesday looking for their first win of the season against a team that had started with two wins and a draw. But Murray's opener within the first minute set them on their way and when the Owls found a second-half equaliser the reliable forward was on hand to net a late winner for Dougie Freedman's side.
