Grant Leadbitter wants Middlesbrough to build momentum

Grant Leadbitter is targeting victory over Brighton on Saturday to provide a springboard for Middlesbrough's play-off campaign.

Bournemouth's victory over Bolton on Monday evening means Boro can only snatch automatic promotion to the Barclays Premier League by way of a highly unlikely series of results on the final day of the campaign.

However, Leadbitter admits he and his team-mates suspected that would be the case in the aftermath of a remarkable 4-3 defeat at Fulham, in which goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos was caught upfield looking for a late winner when the Londoners snatched victory themselves.

The midfielder told the club's official website: "We move on, we'll come in and train hard this week.

"It's out of our hands and has been for a few weeks - we went for the win and believed we had to win and a point wasn't good enough, and that's why Dimi came up.

"But if we finish on 87 and that's not good enough, then it's not good enough. It's important to win our next game and when you win your next game, that gives you a bit of momentum going into the next one. If that's the play-offs, then great - I can't wait."
