Rotherham manager Steve Evans was impressed with his side's ability to pick themselves up off the floor during the enthralling 1-1 draw with Norwich on Saturday.

The Millers, taking the field for the first time since being docked three points, looked as if they would be heading into the bottom three after falling behind on the hour to a moment of brilliance from Gary Hooper, with nearest rivals Millwall beating Derby at the Den.

But Evans' side threw everything at the promotion-chasing Canaries and eventually found a way through when Jordan Bowery headed home in the 86th minute.

And a late capitulation from Millwall, who drew 3-3, meant that the Millers stayed out of the relegation zone and can secure their Sky Bet Championship survival if they beat Reading on Tuesday night.

"We needed a reaction. We missed a couple of chances and the message coming on from me was 'never stop, never stop'," Evans said. "We knew what was happening at the Den. We knew what was happening at Wigan.

"We had a right go. We gave it everything we had, and credit to my players, every one of them.

"You have to have desire and passion and commitment in your dressing room to come back from a goal like that.

"We'll come back here again on Tuesday and try to keep ourselves in this division despite a lot of people not wanting us around.

Norwich's hopes of Sky Bet Championship automatic promotion were dealt a blow as Rotherham scored a late equaliser in a rousing 1-1 draw

"If I get the same kind of application, the same desire and commitment from the players, I'll be delighted because you can't ask for more than those guys have given me. I thanked them at the end. I said they're an absolute credit to their profession at Rotherham United."

The Millers spent much of the afternoon in the bottom three owing to Millwall's lead over Derby, while Norwich looked to be heading into the automatic promotion spots until Bowery's late intervention.

Evans admitted his gung-ho approach in search of a leveller was fuelled by knowledge of scores elsewhere.

"There will be managers around the country and if they say they weren't aware of what was happening at Rotherham their noses will be growing as far as the microphones," Evans said.

"When we knew Millwall were 3-1 up at the Den, we had a go.

"In the 94th minute we're throwing six and seven men forward into their box to try to get a goal.

"Their goal led a charmed life. As much as Hoops will take credit for a wonder-goal, you have to give credit for a magnificent defensive performance in the second half by their back four."
