Leeds head coach Neil Redfearn will seek assurances from the club's senior management before deciding whether to stay on at Elland Road.

Redfearn's future has been in doubt since assistant Steve Thompson was suspended by the club without warning earlier this month.

Redfearn said at the time he would consider his position at the end of the season.

Asked whether he would accept a new contract, Redfearn, whose current deal expires in the summer, said: "A this moment in time it's not the right time to answer that question, but I understand the reasons for asking it in fairness.

"There's a lot of things that have got to be discussed and a lot of things have got to be made clear, in the understanding of things.

"I think what's happened during this season, I think both parties have learned quite a lot about the division, about what we need to do.

"It's case of sitting down and having a level-headed, adult conversation about which is the best way for the club."

Thompson, whose deal will not be renewed in the summer, was effectively sacked by sporting director Nicola Salerno, whose own future at the club is now in doubt.

Disqualified owner Massimo Cellino, banned until May 2 due to tax convictions, confirmed Salerno had quit, but the latter has since said he was undecided.

Redfearn takes his side to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday for their penultimate game of the season on the back of a five-game losing run. Leeds lost the corresponding fixture 6-0 last season.

"Well there are two games left," Redfearn added. "I'm here to take those two games and then obviously my position will be discussed then.

"The club have got their own view as to how they want to do it and I've got to sit down and have a good think about what I want to do.

"Both (parties' views) are important. But in the short term, with regard to the rest of the season, it's important we try and get results and perform well in both these two games.

"We must try and put the players in a better vein, confidence-wise, because we haven't been playing too badly but we haven't been getting the results and we're on a downward turn results-wise.

"I want the season to finish as well as it can for the players."
