FL72 review: Andy Hinchcliffe talks Bristol City, Scunthorpe and who's going up in the Championship

Bristol City's players celebrate winning the league during the Sky Bet League One match at Ashton Gate, Bristol.

Each week, Sky Sports experts discuss the weekend's results in the Football League. This week, George Gavin was joined on FL72 by Andy Hinchcliffe, who gave his views on the potential ups and downs with just a fortnight of the season to go.

HOME COMFORTS

ANDY SAYS: The two remaining fixtures are winnable games for all those sides. It’s not about the form you’re in, it’s about holding your nerve. On the last day of the season, I think you’d want to be at home, so those sides that are at home, I do think have a better chance of actually making it.

BRILLIANT BENIK

ANDY SAYS: Wolves have overachieved bringing in a player that can score goals as frequently as he does. He’s a livewire when he’s in the penalty area. He’s done it at MK Dons, he’s done it at Wolves. It’s whether Kenny [Jackett] can actually keep him there for the next two or three years.

DERBY IN TROUBLE

ANDY SAYS: They have to be careful. Tom Ince can be a player who can win games. People presume Derby will make the playoffs, but I’m not so sure. They’ve gone away to Spain this week; I think it’s to get a bit of rest. It makes sense, just take them away and get away from all the pressure.

ROBINS RELIANT ON PLAYERS

ANDY SAYS: Mark Robins [Scunthorpe manager] after the match said that the players showed no pride in the shirt. As a manager, you do have to be careful what you say. He was clearly unhappy in the performance, but the manager has to think, "what I say here, this could have repercussions". In the games that come as well, if the players lose confidence in a manager because of comments he’s made to the media, he can easily lose the dressing room. Okay, you’re wound up after the game, but players can easily get unhappy at that.

TOUGH LEAGUE

ANDY SAYS: I think Wigan and Brighton's league position shows you how tough the Championship is. You look at Fulham as well, at the start of the season we expected those three sides to really do well, but they’ve all been caught out badly. It would be a bit of a miracle if Gary [Caldwell] keeps Wigan up.

BRILLIANT BRISTOL CITY

ANDY SAYS: You see all the developments going on around the club, the infrastructure, player recruitment, manager, I think everything is right about Bristol City. They deserve to get promoted, and they deserve to be champions. Where they go from here will be interesting, but they have a very sound base. I think they’ll be successful in the Championship, you look at Brentford and Wolves, they’ve done similar things in the Championship to what they did in League One. I don’t see Steve Cotterill changing an awful lot, maybe bringing in a few more players. But I think they’ll keep their principles, and if they do that I think they’ll do well.
