Eidur Gudjohnsen's goalscoring return to international football brought a smile to Neil Lennon's face.
The 36-year-old Bolton forward was back in Iceland colours on Saturday having initially called time on his career with his country when they failed to qualify for the World Cup finals in Brazil in 2014.
He had been contemplating a U-turn on that decision when he first started training with his old club Wanderers in November, and Lennon was delighted to see his aspirations come to fruition when he started and scored in the 3-0 Euro 2016 qualifying victory over Kazakhstan.
"It's a fantastic story and it's a great profile for our club," said the Northern Irishman.
"We sat down with Eidur in October time when I got the job and we said, 'how are you feeling about things?' He said, 'I'll come in and train because I think I've got more in me. My motivation is to get back in the Iceland squad'.
"He's done all that and he's still playing at the highest level, still scoring.
"When the news came through at the weekend that he'd scored I had a big smile on my face. I think it's a brilliant story and a good motivation for any young player out there that, even at 36, you can still achieve your goals."
