Bournemouth have signed striker Kenwyne Jones on loan from Cardiff City for the remainder of the season, subject to international clearance.

The former Sunderland and Stoke player's loan move to the Championship table-toppers will run until the end of May as the Cherries bid for promotion to the Premier League.

Trinidad and Tobago international Jones, 30, was Stoke's £8.5m record-signing when he joined from Sunderland in 2010 and helped take the Potters to the FA Cup final that season.

But he fell behind Peter Crouch in the pecking order the following season and in January 2014 moved to Cardiff in a player exchange for Peter Odemwingie.

Jones, who is Cardiff's top scorer so far this season with 13 goals in 36 appearances, was born in Point Fortin Trinidad, first moving to British football when he signed for Southampton in the Premier League in 2004.

He spent much of that first season on loan in the lower leagues, initially with Sheffield Wednesday in League One and then Stoke in the Championship, but during the next two seasons added 21 goals for Southampton, leading to his big move to Sunderland.

Jones scored 26 goals in 94 games for Sunderland between 2007 and 2010 before his four-year spell at Stoke.

He will train with Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth squad for the first time next week following their return from a training camp in Dubai and could make his debut in the Good Friday fixture at Ipswich Town.

In a statement on the club website, Cardiff confirmed the loan deal and said: "Kenwyne will link up with the Cherries immediately, subject to international clearance.

"The emergency loan spell will run until May 2nd 2015 inclusive, though will be extended until 25th May (inclusive), should Bournemouth feature in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final that day.

"We wish Kenwyne the very best of luck during his time away."
