Charlton boss Guy Luzon hails Frederic Bulot after win over Nottingham Forest

Charlton head coach Guy Luzon hailed Frederic Bulot's "best game in two years" as the Gabon international's brace helped down in-form Nottingham Forest at The Valley.

Bulot opened the scoring in the seventh minute and then notched what would prove to be the winner seven minutes before the break after Michail Antonio had drawn Forest level.

Luzon was not only impressed by the 24-year-old's goals, though, and was quick to highlight the "magnificent" work the midfielder did at the other end of the pitch as well.

"I coached Frederic for a year and a half and it was his best game in two years," said Luzon, who was Bulot's coach at Standard Liege in Belgium.

"But the two goals were a bonus - he was magnificent in defence as well as attack. He deserved his success."

Luzon was also thrilled with the way his side have now left the relegation scrap way behind them.

Charlton were very much a part of the relegation picture when Luzon was appointed in January but Tuesday's win over Forest has left them 14 points clear of the drop zone.

"When I arrived at the club the only target was to stay in the league," the Israeli said. "I am happy that we are now out of the war at the bottom of the league. Our target for the rest of the season is to get points from every game and enjoy our football."

He added of Tuesday's victory: "We showed not only quality but a lot of character. In football character is very important because in the last two weeks we have played every three days and it is not easy for the players. we are not fresh like we were two weeks ago."

The defeat was Forest's first under new manager Dougie Freedman, who had previously overseen five wins and a draw since taking over from Stuart Pearce at the City Ground last month.

It dented play-off hopes that had been slim to start with and Forest now find themselves 11 points adrift of sixth-place Brentford with 11 games remaining.

"I felt that because of the five games that we have won out of six and the effort we put in to do that it just caught up us in the end and we paid the price," the Scot said.

"In the last 10 to 15 minutes, when both teams were really at it it just caught up with us. But I never thought the play-offs were a possibility. I thought we were always too far away from it.

"I've played in this division and managed in it and to win five games out of six, the effort physically and mentally that we've shown just caught up with us tonight. The players showed great commitment and gave it everything they had right to the end against a decent Charlton side that was well-organised."
