Millwall have signed right-back Shaun Cummings from Reading for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old, who has joined on a two-and-a-half-year deal, played a major role as Reading gained promotion to the Premier League in 2011/12 but has struggled to hold down a regular first team spot at the Madejski this term.

Cummings is Millwall's fourth signing during the January transfer window, joining Paris Cowan-Hall, Dan Harding and Stefan Maierhofer at the Den.

This is a very good club and that is why I came here. I'm very pleased to be here.

Millwall boss Ian Holloway told millwallfc.co.uk: "Nigel Gibbs has worked with Shaun before so he knows exactly what we are getting.

"He can play at wing-back or at right-back and he can run all day long. He can attack and he played in a team that got promoted out of this division.

"We're delighted to have Shaun on board as I think he can be a real asset for us over the short and long-term. He gives us a new option and as a player he can contribute in defence and in attack."

Cummings said: "This is a very good club and that is why I came here. I'm very pleased to be here.

"The position in the League isn't where we should be so hopefully as a club we can step on. It is going to be an important time between now and the end of the season in getting the club out of the zone it is in and progressing forward.

"From a personal point of view I want to hit the ground running straight away and play how I know I can play. I'm a hard worker and I never like to lose. I like to get forward and get crosses in but as a defender.

"I also want to keep clean sheets and do well in my one-on-one duels."
