Demarai Gray has been offered a two-year extension by Birmingham City after the winger's breakthrough this season.

The 18-year-old's current deal expires in 2016 but Blues are hoping to tie him down until 2018.

Crystal Palace had a bid rejected in the summer and after Gray's impressive form this term, Birmingham want to secure his future.

The club have been in talks with the England Under-19 star, who has scored four goals in 17 games this season, for a while and have formally offered him fresh terms.

Gray scored a hat-trick in Birmingham's 6-1 win over Reading on Saturday which lifted them to 15th in the Sky Bet Championship.

It was manager Gary Rowett's fourth win in seven games since taking over in November and he will also make Michael Morrison's loan permanent in January.

The defender will pen a three-and-a-half year deal on January 1 after initially signing on loan from Charlton in November.
