Sky Bet Championship: Kit Symons hails Fulham's 4-0 win over Bolton

Kit Symons watched his Fulham team score four against Bolton on Wednesday night and felt they must have impressed the Fulham Five.

Cottagers chairman Shahid Khan has assembled a five-man panel to help him choose the club's next manager following the disastrous appointment of Felix Magath.

But in the meantime caretaker boss Symons has guided previously winless Fulham to back-to-back victories after goals from Hugo Rodallega, Fernando Amorebieta, Lasse Vigen Christensen and Tim Hoogland secured a comprehensive 4-0 success.

So while ex-captains Danny Murphy and Brian McBride, former Sunderland striker Niall Quinn, academy boss Huw Jennings and season-ticket holder David Daly weigh up the options, the obvious candidate appears to be already in the dug-out.

"That performance and result certainly won't do me any harm," said Symons.

Fulham leapfrogged opponents Bolton at the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table after recording a comfortable 4-0 win at Craven Cottage.

"When I took over in I tried to galvanise the club and get everyone pulling together, and to start winning games, and on both counts it's going pretty well so far.

"It's a great feeling hearing the fans sing my name. I've had stadiums booing me before, when I played, so it's nice to have one cheering me now."

But while Symons passed his latest audition to land the top job, he left old friend Dougie Freedman clinging on to his.

Fulham have now leapt above Bolton and the outlook appears bleak for their boss Freedman following a dreadful run of one win in 10 matches.

In fact the only positive for the Scot was the sound of the cheers of the home crowd drowned out the jeers from the travelling support.

Symons did have sympathy for his former Crystal Palace team-mate, and said: "It's the other side of the game. We're euphoric and on a high, but unfortunately there's always someone on the other end of it."

Fulham, clearly buzzing after breaking their win duck at Birmingham on Saturday, took the lead in the ninth minute when Rodallega pounced on Matt Mills' slip and fired home.

Amorebieta headed in the second in first-half stoppage time, and Fulham piled on the misery in the second half with Rodallega teeing up Christensen for his first for the club and Hoogland driving in the fourth 11 minutes from time.

Freedman, who faced fan protests and pitch invaders during their home defeat by Derby on Saturday, admitted: "It's a difficult job and it's proving to be more difficult that I thought.

"But I feel very confident we can do it. Will I be given time? I think so.

"The performance was concerning. We've gifted them a goal once again. We've got to stop giving away silly goals.

"We need a result. I've told the players they are in a relegation battle, with a big 'R'."
