Leeds head coach Dave Hockaday praised his team's performance in their 2-1 pre-season win over Swindon, saying it shows his players are stepping in the right direction.
After losing to Mansfield and drawing to Chesterfield, Hockaday and his side have been subject to criticism, but the former Forest Green manager believes the hard work on the training ground is paying dividends.
He told the club's website: "I knew it was going to be a tough test because Swindon play good football. I just think that inch by inch we are getting better.
"I'm asking the players to get the ball down and play and they are trying to do that. I certainly think we did it in the first half."
The Whites took the lead through Steve Morison before Michael Smith's neat volley levelled after the half-hour mark. Rodolph Austin's second-half spot-kick, his third penalty of pre-season, gave United the edge.
Hockaday added: "I was really disappointed with the goal we conceded because we had a spare man on the edge of the box. If you are a spare man, that means that they have got somebody spare and the ball went to him and he put it in.
"In regards to match management and actually winning games, there is lots of things that we need to work on but overall I think it is a step in the right direction."
