Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy believes Christophe Berra has been the best centre-back in the Championship this season.
The 29-year-old put in a superb display in Saturday's narrow 1-0 victory over Birmingham at Portman Road to thwart the visitors and help secure three points which keep Town firmly in the play-off shake-up.
Berra has since reported for international duty with Scotland as they prepare to face Poland in a friendly on Wednesday.
And he has done so with the wholesome praise of McCarthy ringing in his ears.
McCarthy, who operated at the heart of defence himself during his playing days, told the club's official website: "Christophe has had a magnificent season and I haven't seen a better centre-half in the Championship this season.
"I'm amazed at what other people think about him at times and I don't think he gets the credit he deserves from outside this club. I've heard opposition staff on the sidelines shouting 'get at him'. Do they not know how quick he is?
"Remember he is also playing on the right side of the defence and that doesn't suit him as much as the left, yet he has taken to the task with aplomb.
"Like I said he has been fantastic for us. I know how good he is and that is why I was delighted to get him in the summer."
